Arlene Risi Streich was a lifelong artist and force of nature. She was my friend and my son's grandma. When she died, Eli and I composed this piece to perform at her memorial. We chose her life, her powerful spirit, and her painting "Eyeball Cafe" as our inspiration.
In doing this, I was also able to realize my long-held dream of me and Eli being in a mama and baby band called "Placenta." (Much to Eli's chagrin)
